Museum MACAN and BWI present Design Up Close — a new program series dedicated to the practice and theory of design. Creating links between global designers and local design issues, the program consists of a regular keynote lecture paired with a mentoring and open review program led by Indonesian design professionals.

This year, Design Up Close provides six opportunities to see, hear, learn and participate in this exciting new program — students and emerging design practitioners are encouraged to apply to upcoming open calls.

This program is supported by Himpunan Desainer Interior Indonesia (HDII), Aliansi Desainer Produk Industri Indonesia (ADPII) and Actiu. This program is powered by Cisco.

Our surrounding environment is one of the factors which affects our wellbeing. Research has identified that there is a nexus between neuroscience, psychology, architecture and mental wellbeing – and therefore how we read and experience our surroundings impacts our sense of self.

How can design contribute to physical, mental and emotional wellbeing? This is a timely discussion, as we think about the current state of society. Beyond just the application of ergonomics, and the selection of color and material finishes, design has an important role to play, as we imagine new social imperatives and adjust to new realities.

Design Up Close Mentoring session will run from 30 April — 1 May 2020 (closed sessions), followed by a public review and discussion on 2 May 2020.

Mentor: Fauzy Prasetya Kamal

Lecturer at Paramadina University

Fauzy Prasetya Kamal graduated from the Institut Teknologi Bandung, majoring in product design. He continued his study at Central Saint Martins, London, where he completed a Master of Design in Ceramics. After graduation, Fauzy returned to Bandung and co-founded Kandura Studio. He has been involved in a number of design initiatives across Java and Lombok. In 2013, Monocle magazine described him as one of Indonesia's key players in its"Local Talent – Bandung" section.

Pablo Amorós is a Marketing specialist, WELL AP and Head of Corporate Wellness and Strategic Projects at Actiu. He has a professional career of more than 8 years in a multinational and medium-sized companies, as well as international experience having lived in the USA, United Kingdom and Germany.

His last years have been associated to the furniture firm Actiu, where at the Marketing Strategy Department he has coordinated and managed projects to adapt the company's value proposition to the customer's needs at different levels. Recently, he achieved the WELL certification for the Actiu Technology Park headquarters, and currently he is coordinating new projects such as LEED, Level recertification, and the launch of a new commercial platform that we will see soon.

Pablo always works cross-sectionally with different internal and external teams, and putting the culture of well-being at the center as a lever for change. He has also participated and supported other dissemination events and organizations on well-being, food and climate change.
