About the Program
La Galigo or Sureq Galigo is one of the longest classic literary works in the world, which continues to offer guidance to Bugis people who hold the belief of Towani Tolotang. Within its chapters, there are abundant records of local wisdom from the past Bugis society. This panel discussion will discuss about the practice of rice cultivating ritual and techniques recorded within the La Galigo.
South Sulawesi has been known as one of Indonesia’s national "rice barn". How does the relation between rice and the people form a societal identity? How is that identity depicted through the scripts of La Galigo, particularly in the story of Sangiang Serri? And will the development of rice cultivation techniques and technology nowadays align with traditional wisdom and values?
Panel Discussion Saturday, 29 January 2022 at 03.00–04.00 PM (GMT+7).
With Muhlis Lugis (Artist), Anwar Jimpe Rachman (Co-curator), and Nurhayati Rahman (La Galigo Researcher and Lecturer at Universitas Hasanuddin). Moderated by Sally Texania (Curator, Museum MACAN).
