About the Exhibition
'Ketok Magic' is a semi-retrospective exhibition that marks Tromarama’s first solo exhibition at a museum in Indonesia while celebrating two decades of the collective’s artistic practice. Bringing together a selection of works from different periods, the exhibition traces the development of Tromarama’s practice alongside changes in technology and the media landscape over the past twenty years.
Exploring shifts in how people interact with media, the exhibition reveals how Tromarama’s practice has evolved from experiments with animation during the transition from television dominance to the rise of the internet, to installations and interventions involving everyday objects that critically engage with the presence of digital platforms, algorithms, and artificial intelligence.
'Ketok Magic' explores the relationship between society, technology, and media. The works examine how technological developments have transformed everyday life, including the increasingly blurred boundaries between work and leisure on digital platforms. At the same time, Tromarama’s artistic practice highlights the active role people play in outsmarting, adapting, and localizing technology, while questioning the boundaries between humans and machines, as well as between physical and virtual spaces.
By tracing these changes over two decades, the exhibition reveals how Tromarama’s artistic practice continues to evolve alongside technological developments while reflecting on their accompanying social impacts.
