About the Artist

Eko Nugroho is a visual artist born in 1977 in Yogyakarta. His artistic practice, which shaped in Indonesia's post-Reformasi era, had influenced how he examines the changing relationship between the individual and democratic life.

In 2000, Eko founded Daging Tumbuh (DGTMB), an independent art initiative that played an important role in supporting young artists in Yogyakarta. He also founded Wayang Bocor, an interdisciplinary puppet performance project.

Following growing international recognition in the late 2000s, Nugroho represented Indonesia at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). His works are held in major public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia; Singapore Art Museum; Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA); and M+, Hong Kong.
