ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITIONS: Representation, Relevance, Urgency
Coinciding with the presentation of Ketukangan—part of the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale—in Menelan Cakrawala at Museum MACAN, Museum Arsitektur Indonesia invites the public to an in-person discussion on representation, knowledge production, and the relevance and urgency of exhibitions in architectural discourse today.

About the Speaker
Setiadi Sopandi graduated from the Department of Architecture, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan in Bandung, gaining Bachelor of Architecture in 1998. In 2002 he got his M.A. in the Department of Architecture, School of Design & Environment, the National University of Singapore.
He is a certified & licensed practicing architect, co-principal of Indra Tata Adilaras, based in Bogor, Indonesia. His practice covers a wide range of services and many types of architectural projects, from private houses, housing developments, hospitality and resorts, commercial buildings, educational facilities, heritage preservation, cultural and industrial buildings, as well as developing artistic and scientific content for exhibitions and museums.
He has been actively involved in research, publishing, curating, and archiving since 2007 with special attention on modernism, modern architectural heritage, and contemporary art and architectural discourse in Indonesia and Southeast Asia – affiliated with modern Asian Architecture Network (mAAN) and recently with the mASEANa Project.
He is a co-founder and currently acts as the director of Museum Arsitektur Indonesia- arsitekturindonesia.org Indonesian Architecture Museum Foundation - the only institution dedicated to architectural archiving in Indonesia.
About the Speaker
Angeline Basuki trained as an architect at UPH, earned a master's degree in Heritage Management at the University of Kent and Athens University of Economics and Business in Athens, Greece. Since 2015, she has managed restoration projects for Konsorsium Kota Tua Jakarta, a heritage management organisation that renovates and reuses colonial heritage properties around Fatahillah Square. She was part of an architectural research team for a heritage landscapes masterplan in Muaro Jambi and Tana Toraja, commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, respectively.
She contributed to architectural research, publications and exhibitions, with special interest in the 20th century, including "Dipl.-Ing. Arsitek: German-trained Indonesian architects from the 1960s," "Berlage di Nusantara," "Learning from Mangunwijaya" and "Indonesia and the Amsterdam School: When culture crosses the ocean." In 2024, Angie co-directed the documentary film "Wastu: the praxis of Mangunwijaya". Angie lives in Jakarta, and currently acts as heritage engineer for DECorient in the Restoration of Raden Saleh House.
About the Speaker
Trianzani Sulshi is an architect and stage designer known for her experimental approach to materials and craftsmanship. She studied Design + Make at the Architectural Association, Hooke Park and London. As co-founder of Studio Aliri, based in South Tangerang and Bali, she develops collaborative dialogues between materials, makers, and designers.
Her practice explores spatial storytelling through architecture and stage design, grounded in sustainability, culture, creativity, and material experimentation.
About the Speaker
David Hutama is an architectural historian and more than 20 years experienced educator in Indonesia. After completing his Bachelor of Engineering at Universitas Katolik Parahyangan in 2000. In 2002, he graduated from Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan. He received his doctoral degree in architecture from the AA School of Architecture in London, UK, in 2021, under LPDP scholarship. David's research interests are diverse, encompassing a broad range of topics in architectural history and design. He was commissioned as co-curator of the Pavilion Indonesia at the International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, in 2014 and 2018.
Currently, he teaches at Universitas Pelita Harapan, Indonesia, and serves as a PhD co-supervisor at Ghent University, Belgium. He also works as the managing director of Nenun Ruang, an open education platform dedicated to fostering the growth and development of architecture and design in Indonesia. His latest publications include Building Practice in the Dutch East Indies: Epistemic Imposition at the Beginning of the 20th Century, published by Routledge(2023), Tropicality: Houses by Andra Martin, published by Thames & Hudson(2024), Di Balik Layar (Behind-the-Scene): Arsitektur Andra Matin, published by A publication(2025), and Tropical Indulgence: The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel: Yolodi+Maria Architects, published by Red & White publication(2025).
About the Speaker
Avianti Armand is an architect, curator, and writer. She began writing literature in 2008. Her short story "Once Upon a Time There Was Mother and Radian" was selected as the Best Short Story by Kompas 2009. She has twice been awarded the Kusala Khatulistiwa Prize for her poetry collections "The Woman Whose Name Was Erased" (2011), and "Museum Masa Kecil" (Childhood Museum) (2018). She began writing children's bilingual picture books during the pandemic, and published them as the Empathy Series. One of the books in the series, "He Says the Nicest Thing," was selected in the 2025 IBBY Selection of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities.
In addition to writing books, she was a member of the Jakarta Arts Council's Literature Committee from the 2020-2023. She also served as Executive Director for the Jakarta International Literary Festival.
As an architect, she won the 2008 IAI (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia) Award for her design "Rumah Kampung" (Village House). Outside of professional architectural practice, she is a co-founder of the Indonesian Architecture Museum and serves as its Board of Curators.
